Description
NORTHCOT BRICKWORKS – ESTABLISHED 1925
Northcot Brickworks, situated in Blockley, near Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, has been a cornerstone of British brickmaking for nearly a century. Founded in 1925 as Northwick Brickworks, the company was established to provide local employment and housing following the First World War. This initiative mirrored the Arts & Crafts movement’s emphasis on craftsmanship and community, akin to C.R. Ashbee’s Guild of Handicraft, established in 1888.
In 1952, the brickworks were acquired by their current owner and rebranded as Northcot Brick, with the previous owners opting not to retain the original name. Over the years, Northcot has evolved into a leading manufacturer of traditional handmade bricks, renowned for their rich colours and textures. The company continues to operate using heritage techniques, including the use of a Victorian Pan Mill from 1927, the oldest known working example in Europe, and a traditional Hoffman kiln.
